East Cumbria Countryside Project

The East Cumbria Countryside Project works to create a diverse and thriving rural area, with high quality landscape and wildlife, recreational access for the whole community and regeneration based on sustainable management of the area natural resources. They acheive this through a number of individual projects including:

Geltsdale Wood Project

The Geltsdale Wood project aims to unlock the treasures of this ancient wood pasture, helping people understand how Geltsdale’s landscape has been shaped over time by the people who have lived within it and off it.

The project is fully interactive and involves elements of archaeology, tree ageing, invertebrate and fungi surveys, art and interpretation. The project is currently applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund to be able to fully realise its ambitions.
