New Tree Trail

Volunteer verifier Louise Hemsley, with the help of fellow Woodland Trust volunteer, Vanessa Champion, has produced this wonderful leaflet on the ancient and interesting trees to be found at Levens Hall Park in the South Lakes, Cumbria.

Following a visit by the Ancient Tree Forum in 2013, it became clear that Levens Hall needed its trees recorded on the ATI to confirm its status, as an internationally important site, for its veteran and ancient trees.

Louise and Vanessa were up for the challenge and so began a number of visits discovering and recording its fantastic trees. By the time they had covered the parkland and recorded more than 100 veterans and 20 ancient trees, Louise decided that visitors to the park should be made more aware of these trees and given the opportunity to discover some of the best with a tree trail.

The completed leaflet took many months to finish, with further visits to the estate and discussions with the owners. The leaflet was privately produced by Louise and Vanessa and is available at Levens Hall for a small donation to the Woodland Trust.

The leaflet is inspiring and reading through it, makes you want to visit and experience the trees and sights yourself! Great work and big thanks to Louise and Vanessa helping highlight the importance of the trees at Levens Hall.
