Privacy policy

The Woodland Trust is a registered charity, no. 294344. It has a subsidiary company Woodland Trust (Enterprises) Ltd. We want you, and our other visitors, to understand how we manage this site, how we use the information you give us and how we will communicate with you in the future. We hope this privacy policy achieves these objectives.

We use the personal details you give us to tell you about our work, to administer your membership, to market goods or services, to fundraise, to respond to general enquiries and to tell you about special projects with which we are involved e.g. Nature's Calendar.

We keep the data you provide for as long as we are required by law or for as long as is reasonable. Some information is shared with service providers and/or agents. Data may have to be disclosed to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.

We can only access your personal data if you provide it. We do, however, look at what pages our visitors view and when. This helps us build up a picture of what interests our visitors and how we can use our space to its maximum advantage. Most of this information is anonymous e.g. we may know 200 people visited this privacy policy page today but we won’t have any personal details on those 200 people.

We offer the use of a secure server when you place orders. The secure server software encrypts your information before it is sent to us. We also strive to ensure your personal information is kept secure, accurate, up to date and is only kept for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it is used.

When you give us personal information you can be confident that its use will be restricted to the Woodland Trust or Woodland Trust (Enterprises) Limited unless we say otherwise. If you give us your name and address you may be mailed with information about our work UNLESS you indicate this would be unwelcome. We are only able to email you with information you have consented to receive. You will be given frequent opportunities to opt out of or unsubscribe from email communications. We will never pass your email address to a third party (unless we are working with a partner – see above). Where we share data with a third party you will be made aware of this at the point of giving your personal data.

We DO give you frequent opportunities to opt out of any activities that you might be uncomfortable with. Feel free to tell us, at any time, if you do or do not wish to receive certain types of communications. We want to keep you up to date with our work, we may, in the future, wish to send you details of our Christmas cards and calendars, raffle tickets and the like.

We will never sell or rent your personal data to other organisations though we occasionally agree to exchange member’s names with other, sympathetic organisations. Every member has the opportunity to opt out of these exchanges at the point of joining The Woodland Trust and can let us know at any time if any of our communications are unwelcome.

If you provide us with sensitive personal data, such as details about your health , then you are consenting to that data being recorded.

We do not and have no plans transfer data to countries outside the EEC and will change our privacy policy should this situation change.

If you provide us with information about another person, you confirm that they have appointed you to act for them, to consent to the processing of their personal data and that you have informed them of our identity and the purposes (as set out above) for which their personal data will be processed.

We link to a wide variety of other sites and occasionally display advertisements for third parties. We are not responsible for the content or privacy policies of these sites and third party advertisers, or for the way in which information about their users is treated. In particular, unless expressly stated, we are not agents for these sites or advertisers nor are we authorised to make representations on their behalf.
